By Abdulsalam MUHAMMED, Kano
KANO —The Depart ment of Petroleum Resources would henceforth auction any hoarded or diverted petroleum products and remit the proceeds to the federal Government account.

Kano Operation Controller, Sayyadi Suleiman Abubakar told Journalists in his office that the defaulting companies will also pay twice the cost of hoarded or diverted products.

Sayyadi Suleiman Abubakar explained that the punitive  measures were adopted to checkmate artificial scarcity in the state, stressing that defaulting firms will also be  blacklisted and  the affected station sanctioned.

The Operation Controller revealed that no fewer than 9 filling stations within the Kano municipal were sealed by the Department last week for selling petroleum product above the official price.

Sayyadi Suleiman Abubakar lamented that Companies no longer monitor the activities of their dealers and supporting staff within the distributive chains, adding that there are indicators that station manger connived with pump attendant to rip off their customers.

He stated that the Department in the wake of artificial scarcity in Kano intensify monitoring activities through visits  to retail outlets  to ensure timely delivery of products,  stressing that unwarranted delays in delivering products from Depot is totally unacceptable.

The Operational Controller commended the Kano state Government decision to clamp down on illegal hawking of petrol in the street, maintaining that the Department is ready to offer a helping hand when necessary to ensure the success of the policy.
