Bank manager, hotelier kidnapped in Asaba

By Austin Ogwuda
ASABA—REGIONAL Manager of Oceanic Bank and the proprietor of Leisure Homes, a hospitality industry, have been kidnapped in Asaba, Delta State.

They were reportedly kidnapped on Sunday night between 8:00 and 9:00 pm.
Information reaching Vanguard stated that the owner of Leisure Homes, who hails from Issele-Uku, Delta State, was in the company of the regional bank manager when the kidnappers struck at DDPA Housing estate in Asaba.

Three other occupants of the car, in company of the bank manager and the hotelier, however, managed to escape.
The kidnappers were said to have already established contacts with the family of the bank manager, demanding N110m as ransom.

State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Charles Muka, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) confirmed the incident.

He told Vanguard yesterday afternoon that “we are working hard. It is a sad development but we would close in on the kidnappers soon.”

Worried by the rampant cases of kidnapping, the state Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama, last week called on the Federal Government to prescribe death penalty for persons caught in the act of kidnapping.
