3 PDP commissioners, victims of cross fire – Oshiomhole

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN — GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state has said that the three Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Commissioners, who resigned from his cabinet were victims of what he described as a “cross fire” between him and the former Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih.

He said that he has no ill feeling over their resignation, but declared, however, “I will continue tackling the PDP and have no apologize about it, after all they started the tackling and we are going to sustain it”.

The Governor who  fielded questions from newsmen as part of activities marking his 1st year anniversary weekend, said that he was magnanimous enough when he agreed to accept the request made by Chief Anenih to appoint some Commissioners into his cabinet even after the PDP allegedly rigged his election.

According to him, “we thank the Commissioners for the services they rendered. But the fact that I could allow Chief Anenih to recommend three Commissioners to me, even when I knew they rigged election against me, was the mark of large heartedness. I demonstrated statesmanship and said look, let just put the past behind. If you stole my vote and God has retrieved them, who I am to nurse bitterness.

“So I want to work with every body and to demonstrate that I conceded three slots to him after he requested, even though he asked for more but I said three is okay”, he added.

He now started the war and he knew that once I am in that mood the game was over. The father and son had to fight it out and he knew what was going to follow and of course he advised his commissioners to resign before they get fired” he said.

Oshiomhole added that “ I could have decided if I want to do what government do else where, the moment I learnt that they are resigning I would already issued statement that I have dropped them due to poor performance but I decided not to do that. A government does not engage ordinary citizens, I have a duty to protect the image of every Edo person, so I decided to allow them to have their way.

“But let me say that if they were the ones, they will not only announce that they have dismissed them, they will also hand them over to the EFCC. But I will not do that, I still thank them for their services to the people of the state. They were only victims of the cross fire it’s a pity, and no hard feelings at all” he stated.
