In line with his determination to give the nation her best National Sports Festival (NSF) ever, the Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amechi, has intensified preparations ahead of the 17th National Sports Festival slated in Port Harcourt next year.

Sports Vanguard gathered that the governor has sought expertise assistance from foreign sports facilities experts some of who have arrived the state capital to carry out the inspection of all possible venues earmarked to host events of the sports festival.

The visiting teams are meant to do an assessment of the facilities and make recommendation of their findings to help the governor take good decisions on the sort of facilities to present for the festival.

Just last Thursday, the state commissioner for sports, Boma Iyaye, received in his office, a team of swimming pool experts who flew in from Italy. The team who were representing Pear Piscine, a renowned world swimming pool business company, were represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Vitaliano Graziano, who was accompanied by the company’s technical director, Dr. Mariano.  At the end of the inspection of the swimming pool, the Italian experts recommended a whole-scale remodelling of the Civic Centre swimming pool as the present state of the pool was modelled in the 1960s.

Sports Vanguard further gathered that the swimming pool had ceased to function for the past ten years.
Another team of experts is expected from Italy on November 8 to continue from where the Pear Priscine team left with the inspection of other facilities.
