AWKA—A MEMBER  of  the House of Representatives, Mrs. Uche Ekwunife, has won the nomination to carry the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), flag for the 2010 governorship election in Anambra State as she floored the son of the state deputy governor, Mr. Emeka Etiaba and others in a congress that was very peaceful and orderly.

She polled 458 votes to emerge winner while Etiaba scored 220 votes. Dr. Okey Ezeh scored 106 votes to place third.

The Deputy Governor of Abia State and Chairman of the Anambra State congress committee of PPA, Mr. Chris Akomas, assured yesterday that the party would support whoever emerged winner at the primaries.

Akomas explained that the party decided to show an example on how internal democracy could be successfully organised, adding that there was no favoured candidate among the six aspirants.

According to him, all the aspirants  have agreed to abide by the outcome of the exercise and hoped that others would support whoever emerged the eventual winner.

Vanguard observed at the congress venue that the PPA exercise was among the most peaceful in recent time, with the delegates from all the 21 local government areas being accredited and voting peacefully.

All the six aspirants remained at the venue during voting and it was a marked departure from the usual Anambra State brand of politics which is often characterised by uncompromising stance of aspirants.
