UPTH raises hope of childbirth for women

Port Harcourt— Women in Nigeria who cannot get pregnant due to natural causes or diseases could now be assisted to get pregnant and produce babies through medically-assisted reproduction system, Chief Medical Director, University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Dr. U. S. Etawo, has said.

Also, the institution has concluded arrangements to commence life support programme, to the effect that sick people whose health fail badly could be helped to stay alive and longer through the facilities available in the hospital.

Etawo, who met with the press as he gave his valedictory speech in Port Harcourt,
Rivers State, Wednesday, said childless marriages have brought miseries to many families and have broken marriages, stating that there was the need to help such people.

The CMD, who is leaving office after serving his two tenures of eight years, said the university had joined the league of health institutions like UNIBEN and National Hospital Abuja, that could provide such services to needy women.
