KADUNA — AN Assistant Director of the Department of State Security, DSS, also known as State Security Service, SSS, last week lost eight children in an auto crash in Kaduna state.

Five of the deceased were his biological children while the other three were related to his wife.

Sources close to the service told Vanguard that the official, from Jigawa state, was taking the eight children in his official Peugeot 406 saloon car to Abuja for the naming ceremony of his new child when he had the accident.

According to the sources, the SSS official who drove the children was the ninth occupant of the vehicle.

“The officer was on his way to attend the naming ceremony of his new child from his second wife with the children, some of whom were in primary and secondary schools in Kaduna state.

“The vehicle was in motion when one of the tyres burst and in an attempt to control the situation; the car skidded off the road and plunged into a river, about 90 kilometers from Kaduna.

“The SSS official was the only occupant of the vehicle who miraculously survived and swam out of the river.

“It was a pathetic situation as the children shouted baba, baba, as they drowned. As we speak, the vehicle is yet to be brought out of the river since last week when the accident occurred,” the source said.

Meanwhile, all the deceased children have been buried in accordance with Islamic injunction.
