Speak with one voice, Mudiaga-Odje urges N-Deltans

By Festus Ahon
UGHELLI—Human rights activist and a Warri-based legal luminary, Dr. Akpo Mudiaga-Odje, has charged the people of Niger Delta to learn to speak with one voice and endure together in peace with one another to eventually propel the resurgence of reinforced and reunited array of ethnic nationalities in the region towards their fight for self determination in Nigeria.

Odje, who stated this while delivery a lecture as a guest speaker at the  10th Chris Ikomi memorial lecture organised by the Chris Ikomi Foundation, said Nigeria was not practicing true democracy.

“It is only when these fixated selfish attitudes and more are changed through re-orientations and reforms that we shall be emboldened to state that Nigeria is practicing true democracy.

Until then, what we are practicing remains best described in the satirical words of the prolific poet, scholar and writer, Professor Niyi Osundare, that: “We have not experienced democracy, what we have is “demon-crazy” and the demon is very crazy indeed.”

Odje said “we thus need a thorough amendment of our Constitution, through credible representatives of the people.  It, therefore, beats my imagination hollow, for our respected Professor Dora Akunyili, the incumbent Minister of Information, to be talking of re-branding Nigeria without addressing these crucial questions.”
