The Ikoyi Club 1938 has unveiled plans   to make the 71st Anniversary of the   Lagos elite club memorable.
According to the Chairman, Organising Committee, Folorunso Omosa, at a press conference heralding a two-week long programme of events, it would be kicked off with sectional tournaments to hold from October 14-28, 2009.

“This would afford all the sections of the club, eight in all to organize their tournaments so that members can have a feel of the anniversary even in the field of play, be it on the golf course or the tennis, badminton or squash courts”. A member of the committee, Patrick Ukah informed that the golf section would hold its own anniversary tournament on  October 17th ”.

“We expect all other sections to have held their own anniversary tournaments before October 28,” the LOC chairman added.
Winners in these tournaments, Omosa informed would be handsomely rewarded on the grand finale billed for Saturday, October 31, 2009. “It has been our tradition to reward deserving people by giving them trophies and plaques and this would be done during Anniversary lunch/presentation of prizes”.

It would be the turn of the children on Saturday, the 24th of October with the Anniversary Children Party. Omosa elaborated, “Because our young ones are our future, we have set aside this day to make them have a feel of the celebration. They would come in with their friends and celebrate in their own unique style”

The unique event of the 71st anniversary celebration of Ikoyi Club 1938, is however the International Harmony Ball, fixed for Friday, 30th of  October. According to the entertainment coordinator of the organizing committee, Princess Kujore, the theme of the event is ‘Go back to the 50s’.

She elaborated. “Like the theme, we want to go back to the 50s and display the cultural outfits of the 50s. And it would not be exclusive to Nigerian wears, but all nationals in the club.
