I wasn’t involved in Anenih era of road contracts – Okonjo Iweala

Dr. Okonjo Iweala, Managing Director of the World Bank and Nigeria’s former Finance Minister who also got the country off the debt crisis, today dismissed the Senate report on road contract, insisting that it was wrong-headed to have made tendentious insinuations about her and her tenure.

Speaking to Vanguard on phone from her Washington office, Dr. Iweala stated emphatically that she was not the Finance Minister when Chief Tony Anenih was Works Minister and allegedly supervised the road work and could not have been involved in contract awards and payment of that era.

Dr. Iweala added that she did her work for Nigeria, her country in a most diligent manner with clear emphasis on openness, transparency and accountability – initiating a process of full disclosure in governance.

She added that linking her to poor performance and publication of same in the newspapers was highly mischievous.

Vanguard earlier today carried a Senate Committee report on the Anenih era which gave a blanket indictment of almost all public officers in Works, Finance and Due Process offices.
