Enugu residents to get social benefit numbers

By Tony Edike

ENUGU — THE Enugu State Government is set to issue Social Benefit Numbers to residents of the state in line with its vision towards the general wellbeing of the citizens as well as to improve its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

The IGR consultant to the state government, Dr. Kingsley Nwosu, who announced this at a Town Hall meeting between some management staff of the Board of Internal Revenue and traders drawn from various markets in the state, said the scheme would also ensure that tax payers enjoy social insurance from the government.

Nwosu, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Enenia Biometrics Incorporated, said necessary steps are being taken to document tax payers for effective revenue collection as applicable in other civilized states, adding that the initiative was to replicate what has worked elsewhere with a view to improving government’s revenue.

“The documentation is in compliance and support of the visions and goals of the state government.  Primarily, the documentation is geared towards providing social welfare and social benefits for the people of the state.

The government has ensured that the residents are taken care of by providing public amenities and social services.  The state ought to have information of who these residents are,” he said.
