Anambra expends N50m on hospital equipment

Onitsha—Anambra State Government has spent N50m on hospital equipment, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Amobi Ileka has said.

The Commissioner who spoke with the Vanguard, yesterday said the equipment, which came in 10 containers, were made up of demographic machines, CR, ultra sound machines, anaesthetic machines, beds, incubators, x-ray machines, renal dialysis machines, cardiac beds, operating theatres, operating lights, among others.

He said the five demographic machines meant for  the detection of breast cancer would be distributed to the cancer and renal cancer institute at Onitsha, Amaku General Hospital Awka, Ekwulobia, Enugwu-Ukwu and Aguleri.

The Commissioner who hinted that two female doctors had lost their lives to breast cancer, said government was poised to tackle breast cancer in the state, which he described as a silent epidemic that was taking the lives of young women today.
