Ex-international Adokie Amiesimaka, like most Nigerians, still has the believe that there is the possibility that the Eagles may qualify for the 2010 World Cup.

Amiesimaka says toda

y’s match against the Mambas of Mozambique is one that the Eagles must win and one that they cannot afford to play as if nothing is at stake.

Against Tunisia at the same venue a few weeks ago, the Eagles threw away the golden opportunity to take their destiny in their hands by failing to defeat Tunisia.

Today, coach Shaibu Amodu and his men will have to fight with everything they have to ensure that they secure the maximum points.
Adokie, as the former Green Eagles winger is called by friends, says it’s unfortunate that our qualifying or not does not depend on the outcome of our matches, rather our fate is in the hands of Tunisia.

“We must play to win against Mozambique and Kenya and hope that Tunisia slips up against them. No Matter what has caused the apparent lack of seriousness  of our Super Eagles, I cannot imagine them playing as if nothing is at stake. I expect them to want to impress their fans. But what an irony because our qualifying will not depend on the outcome of our matches but on the performance of the Carthage Eagles”, Amiesimaka said.

The former Sharks FC chairman also advised that members of the Flying Eagles be infused into the senior team. According to him, they should be given an opportunity to fight for a shirt and stressed that players should be picked based on proven ability and form only.
He added that  it does not matter if a player is based in Europe or at home.

On the apparent lack of seriousness in our football, Adokie said more permanent long term solution requires articulating a credible youth development program in all its ramifications, using the school system as platform, building neighbourhood playgrounds from a synergy of public and private sector to encourage mass participation and facilitate the discovery of talents, adopting a playing style in Nigeria.

According to him, this can only be made possible if the football governing body has in-built checks and balances and is manned by persons with vision, passion, knowledge and integrity.
