Zazzau Emirate sued over alleged acquisition of farmlands

By Emeka Mamah

Kaduna -  The Zazzau Emirate headed by Dr. Shehu Idris has been dragged before a Higher Sharia Court in Kaduna State by one of its indigenes, Hajiya Maryam Ja’afaru, over alleged acquisition of her farmlands.

Hajiya Ja’afaru, 60, is the daughter of the immediate past Emir of Zazzau, the late Ja’afaru Dan Isyaku.

In a statement in Kaduna yesterday, Madam Ja’afaru said she took the action to recover her father’s vast farmlands which she alleged had been taken over by some indigenes of the area with the active connivance of the Emirate Council which also ostracised her.

The statement which was entitled “Save Our Souls” stated that the ownership of the disputed farmlands had been a subject of litigation in the Sharia Court in the last two years owing to different interpretations of the matter by the same court.

According to Hajiya Maryam who traced her lineage from the immediate past Emir of Zazzau, the late Ja’afaru Dan Isyaku, the disputed ownership of farmlands in the Emirate between her and few other people within the Zazzau Emirate council, was earlier decided in her favour but the same Upper Area Court, Zaria later gave another verdict which contradicted its first judgment on the same matter a few weeks ago.

She said: “It is almost two years when a case began on the ownership of farmland in Zazzau Emirate between my humble self and four other people as to the ownership of farmlands in different locations within the Zazzau Emirate Council.

“I wish to state clearly here that their accusations and blackmail that I Maryam Ja’afaru the first daughter of late Emir of Zazzau Ja’afaru (Dan Isyaku) did not and will not drag the Beri-Beri ruling House to court for any reason whatsoever,” she said.
