THE final of the 7th Mike Okonkwo Football Competition will be played on Saturday between the TREM Marine Beach FC, and TREM Shasha FC Football club at the Sports Complex of the Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos.
TREM Marine Beach started her journey into the final at the group stage with a goalless draw with TREM Festac FC, and went all the way to defeat TREM Apapa FC byÂ a lone goal and established her supremacy as the leader ofÂ Group C by defeating TREM, GbagadaÂ 3-1.
TREM Shasha on the other hand, defeated her next door neighbours, TREM Dopemu, 2-0. They went ahead to defeat TREM Iwaya by a lone goal to top the group. TREM Shasha further increased her chances of playing at the final by beating TREM Surulere 1-0.
At the quarter final, they defeated TREM Iwaya 2-0 and proceeded to the semi finals to defeat TREM OworoÂ 2-1 to qualify for the final.
According to a statement by the chairman, Organising Committee, Brother Tijani Niyi, the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele is expected to be the chairman at the final match and closing ceremonies are expected to commence from 1.00 p.m at the venue Other dignitaries expected at the ceremonies are former international football stars including Henry Nwosu, Emmanuel Amuneke and Nduka Ogbade.
The Mike Okonkwo Football Competition, is one of the activities lined up for the 64thÂ birthday anniversary of Dr. Mike Okonkwo, the presiding bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM).
