Ilorin – There is now tension at the Federal Polytechnic Offa over the appointment of the new Registrar and the Bursar by the council which the Federal Government ordered to be reversed following petitions by the staff.
As at the time of filing this report, the management of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa may have dared the Federal Ministry of Education over appointments of new Registrar and Bursar for the institution as the two appointments were yet to be reversed according to the directive by the Federal Ministry of Education since last August.
The Registrar, Mashood Nasiu and the Bursar, Ikhide Obadan, were reportedly appointed last month by the Governing Council of the polytechnic allegedly without compliance with provisions of the Federal Polytechnic Act.
Vanguard investigation revealed that the ministry made the directive after investigating a petition it received from the three staff unions of the school.
The unions namely Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP), Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASSUP) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) in their petition reportedly protested alleged high handedness of the council.
It was learnt they alleged non-compliance with the polytechnic manual stipulating among others that candidates to be appointed as substantive Registrar should have not less than three years experience as Deputy Registrar.
