Standards OrganisationÂ Â of Nigeria is set to also rid the Nigerian Markets of substandard Long Span Aluminum Roofing Sheets.
A statement from the office of the Director General, Dr. John Akanya, said the minimum specified thickness in the Nigerian Industrial Standards for Profile Aluminium Roofing Sheets (NIS 448:2004) popularly referred to as Long Span is 0.55milimetres but the organisation has discovered the presence of those between 0.27mm and 0.35mm in the markets.
This Dr. Akanya stated are not in conformity with the specification in the standard, unacceptable to the Standards Organisation of Nigeria and a disservice to the Nigerian Consumer to get value for money, stressing that the practice should be condemned by all well meaningÂ persons either as Manufacturers, Importers or Consumers.
He stated that SON Enforcement officials at all entry points as well as in the state offices Nationwide have been put on alert to carry out regular Market survey to apprehend all substandard Profile Aluminium Roofing Sheets found in the markets or coming into the country henceforth to safe guard the interest of the Nigerian Consumers at large and effectively implement the specifications in the standard.
The SON Director General disclosed that sister regulatory agencies have also been alerted on the issue to provide support in the surveillance and market survey for the substandard Long Span Aluminium Roofing Sheets.
Dr. Akanya then advised Manufacturers and Importers of the product in their own interest to adhere strictly to the specifications in the Nigerian Industrial Standard NIS 448:2004 for the product in the overall interest of all Nigerians and our Nationâ€™s economy.
