Road expansion: Aliero threatens to revoke contract

By Henry Umoru

ABUJA— THE Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero yesterday threatened, Dantata and Sawoe, the construction firm handling the expansion of Kubwa and Airport roads of the nation’s Capital city with revocation of contract over what he described as slow pace of work.

Aliero who attributed the delay of the job to lack of equipment by the company, said this was not in any way acceptable by the Federal Government.

Speaking yesterday while on inspection tour of on-going projects in the city, the Minister warned that the government was not prepared to go beyond the scheduled completion date of the project.

The Minister who also yesterday ordered the demolition of structures on the two expressways to give way for the construction of the newly approved ten lanes for the area, stressed that this would help forestall a situation where people deliberately erect structures waiting for government to compensate them.

According to him, the Administration has observed the mad rush for the development as well as erection of illegal structures along the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (Airport) and Murtala Muhammad (Kubwa) Expressways with the hope of getting compensated by the government when work commences proper on the two major projects.
