PPA accuses Enugu govt of mismanaging N68bn

By Tony Edike

ENUGU – ENUGU State  leader of People Progressive Alliance, Mr. Okey Ezea, yesterday, raised alarm over what he described as “monumental” fraud being perpetrated in the state.

Ezea said in Enugu at the inauguration of the party’s local government executives, that the present administration had allegedly continued to loot the treasury at the expense of the people at the grassroot.

According to him, over N68 Billion has so far been released to the state and N48 billion to local government areas from the federal allocation in the past two years.

Ezea also alleged that the state government had borrowed N5Billion from the banks and generated billions of naira from its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

He argued that there was no substantial development in the state, especially at the local government level to justify the allocation released to the government.

The party leader called on the appropriate authorities to investigate activities of the present administration if only they would make public a sincere finding.

He said, “PDP has stolen Enugu dry and they will account for our money when the time comes. It is only in Enugu that amounts for contracts especially on road constructions are not made known to the public.

What is the need to beautify the capital city, when other infrastructures in the communities are abandoned? There is no state or even local government presence at the grassroots level and we are saying enough is enough. Nobody can take us for a ride anymore”.

He said that PPA had extended an olive branch to the people to restore sanity in the system and run an all inclusive government.

The PPA leader said council chairmen were having problems with the government over their return ticket because they have threatened to blow open how Enugu money was shared.
