Umuahia – ABIA state Police Command, yesterday announced that it has arrested 17 suspects from different parts of the state for various criminal offences, ranging from armed robbery and illegal possession of live cartridges.
All the arrests were made within four days, between Saturday and Tuesday.
According to the new Police Commissioner, Mr. Jonathan Johnson, among the suspects were four persons, who are alleged to have attacked Eastern Obingwa Police station and liberated 15 male suspects, including one Chinedu Asonye, detained for alleged kidnapping.
Johnson gave the names of these four suspects to include a 40 year old Amaraizu Ikpeoba, (a.k.a Papa Gulder), from Onichangwa in Obingwa council, Udoka Samuel, 35, from Ntighauzor village, Bright Alaibe, 37 from Abayi-Ohanze, also of Obingwa council, and Kalu Agbai Kalu, 37 from Etitama village, Nkporo, Ohafia. They were arrested at an hotel in Ukpakiri in Obingwa, said to be a notorious criminal hide out.
Also, another eight suspects were arrested by a joint team of Mobile Policemen in Umuahia, when they allegedly raided the house of one Chief Olewe Okwuji at Onicha village inÂ Nenu Autonomous community of Obingwa council.
The eight suspects are Chibuike David, 35, from Umuosi village, Nenu, Chizaramokwu Okwuji 17, of Onicha village, Nenu; Kingsley Okwuji 19, of the same Onicha village, Nenu; Chief Olewu Okwuji, 53; Uchendu Ihemere 35, of Umuosigbo village, Ogbonnaya Ohuekwe 58 of Umuhuaba village; Dimkpa Joshua, 45 also of Umuhuaba villages, and Nnamaka Nwolu 26 of Umuokpani village, all in Obingwa.
According to Johnson, various items recovered from them includes, three G.3 riffles, six locally made riffles, one AK47 riffles, one Lar rifle, one G. 3 Magazine, one Police Webb Belt, one police Beret with police crest, one police Helmet, among others.
