Panabiz, IoD partners to promote Good Governance

As public sector and corporate organizations strive to achieve the ideals of good governance towards nation building and sustainable human development, Panabiz International Limited said it is partnering with the Institute of Directors (IoD) Nigeria to promote good governance.

Panabiz International Ltd., partnered with the Institute of Directors (IoD) Nigeria as an exhibiting sponsor of the August Members Evening tagged “ICT as a Tool for Good Governance”, which took place at the National Secretariat in Ikoyi, Lagos on Thursday, August 27, 2009.
The forum which had an attendance of over 200 Directors representing both the public and private sectors was lit up with ICT solutions displayed at the Panabiz stand. The solutions displayed included imaging, telecom, and boardroom solutions.

While explaining to visitors at the stand, Neha Sane, Customer Relationship Manager, Panabiz International Ltd, said that ICT solutions for good governance are available and at affordable rates. She demonstrated that the imaging solutions which include high resolution security cameras are suitable for meeting security needs of stakeholders as well meeting the security objectives of the state or corporation.

Sane demonstrated that the telecom and boardroom solutions promotes virtually all characteristics of good governance which includes Responsiveness- enabling institutions and processes serve their stakeholders within reasonable timeframe; Transparency- enabling stakeholders to have access to information and that institution can manage information in easily understandable forms and media.

Some of the hardware on display included Multifunctional Copiers with key features which make it function as Network Scanners, Network Copier, & Network Printers, PABX Systems integrated with VoIP, Interactive Conference Board, Projectors and Voice Conference Phones.

Perhaps, the most remarkable of the products on display is the Voice Conference Phone commanded owing to its value added features and benefits such as Full Duplex Conference, Conference Recording (120mins), Caller ID (with memory up to 50 phone numbers), Highly sensitive mid-side microphones, Convenient communication between head office & regional office, Catches voices up to 20 feet radius.

Speaking at the forum, Dr. Kadir Hamzat, Honorable Commissioner, Ministry of Science and Technology, Lagos State said that “there is no better time than now to talk about ICT as a tool for good governance because virtually everything is electronically enabled and ICT is an umbrella term that covers all advance technology to allow you to communicate information.”

Dr. Hamzat explained that the core of ICT for good governance strategy involves a fundamental realignment of departmental objectives with the need of the primary stakeholders. “The use of ICT as a tool for good governance therefore can be categorized into three level. The first level is those that transform the internal working of the government or any corporation. The second, is the initiatives that improves government with its citizen and stakeholders and finally, those geared towards economic development especially job creation and retention.”

During his welcome address, Arc. Thomas Awagu, F.IoD, First Vice President, IoD Nigeria said that the IoD has taken cognizance of the ICT sector as the fastest growing sector in the economy hence the need to inform Directors in both the public and corporate sectors on how to deploy ICT as tools for driving good governance and curb corruption in the society.

The number two office bearer of the Directors’ professional body urged top decision makers to embrace full implementation of ICT tools in their decision-making processes pointing that it will go long way to create transparency, accountability, and best practices.
