Oyo State Governor welcomes Etisalat to Ibadan with govt support

The Executive  Governor of Oyo State, Chief Alao Akala, last week expressed gratitude at Etisalat, for extending its services to the ancient town and pledged that the state government would assist in dealing with any challenges the operator may encounter in its roll-out programme in the state.

Akala, through his deputy, Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja made the remarks while receiving a delegation of senior Etisalat officials on a courtesy call in his office, as part of the activities for the official  launch of Etisalat’s services in Ibadan, capital of the old Western region.

According to Akala “we appreciate your coming to our state, and at the same time adding value, through the provision of employment to our youths, we would like you to take further advantage of the great potentials in our great state. We promise to address any challenges you might encounter in your roll-out plan in Oyo state because we realize that we need the support of private organizations such as Etisalat to move the state and indeed the country forward”.

Earlier in his remarks, the head of the delegation and Etisalat’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Steven Evans, expressed his delight at the warm welcome given to the team by the state government while highlighting the fact that Ibadan was a major city and an important one in the business map of the company.

He however noted that “Etisalat is a catalyst for change and this change we have continued to demonstrate using innovative products designed to improve our services to our numerous subscribers. We also recognize the importance of being a responsible corporate organization and to that end we have launched a plan known as the Etisalat Merit Award, aimed at granting scholarships to students in select areas of study.

Scholarships will be awarded to some deserving students of select Universtities and higher institutions of learning in Ibadan and its environs, who have excelled in areas such as Computer Science, Electrical Electronics Engineering and Manag-ement Sciences.”

On behalf of Akala, the deputy governor presented a gift to Etisalat’s CEO while the delegation also presented an Etisalat package to the Deputy Governor in return.
