Group accuses Ogbulafor of destabilising S-East PDP

By Emmanuel Aziken

Abuja-The national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Vincent Ogbulafor has been accused of destabilizing the party in the South East for the purpose of empowering elements from his former party, the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).

The Coalition for Democratic Growth in a statement in Abuja, yesterday traced the involvement of the party chairman to the various crises bedeviling the party in the South East.

The statement by the group’s chairman, Mr Nnamdi Odokara,  further alleged the involvement of the national chairman of the party in the brewing plot to suspend the Abia state chairman of the party, Chief Ndidi Okereke.

While noting that the Southeast chapters of the party were in relative peace until the emergence of Chief Ogbulafor, the group alleged, “in Anambra, he has taken sides with one faction and despite the well-meaning advice by prominent politicians from the zone for a new congress, he has continued to back an unpopular but financially powerful faction to the detriment of the larger interests of the party members in the state.

“In Abia state, Ogbulafor is on a destabilisation mission by playing some exco members against the state chairman. He has subjected the chairman to constant harassment and has been secretly summoning exco meetings behind his back with the sole aim of undermining his leadership and subsequently replacing him with a surrogate.

“In fact, we learned from party sources that Ogbulafor plans to summon a kangaroo emergency meeting to suspend the Abia state chairman and replace him with the deputy chairman, despite the fact that the chairman has committed no offence.

“In Imo, he acted beyond his powers by dissolving a constitutionally elected state congress, and in the process thrown a once-peaceful chapter into turmoil. In Enugu and Ebonyi states, he is waging a secret but relentless war of attrition against the incumbent Governors with the aim of distracting them from discharging their mandates and getting a second term.

“We urge stakeholders to rally together now to stop Chief Ogbulafor before he achieves his aim of destroying the party before 2011″, he added.
