Collaboration, only way to sustain Rebranding project — Akunyili

By Laide Akinboade

Minister of Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akunyili, has said  for the ongoing rebranding campaign to be sustained, there is need to collaborate with all Nigerians.

She stated this at the recent launch of the re-branding campaign in Akwa-Ibom state; she said it is very important for Nigerians to ensure the sustainability of the ongoing re-branding campaign.

She therefore assured Nigerians that the campaign will not in any way reduce or affect the commitment of the present administration led by President Umaru Yar’Adua, in ensuring the development of the nation.
According to her, “What we want to do is to ensure that not only does it succeed but also it is sustained, what we can do is to get all Nigerians involved and trust the project. The project must be able to speak to their needs and they can trust you.  They take over the project and I experienced that in NAFDAC.”

She stressed that though, Some people has misunderstood what rebranding is all about, some people feel it is a distraction of preventing them from getting their dues from the Federal Government. The truth is that we all know that the perception about Nigeria and Nigerians is not favourable. This is costing the nation a lot; we want investors to come and help to develop this country.”

She assured Nigerians that, “As we re-brand government will continue to ensure that concrete developmental deliverables are achieved through President Musa Yar’Adua. We intend to use this rebranding campaign as a platform for constant interaction between the Federal Government and the good people of Nigeria.”  In his response the Governor of Akwa-Ibom state, Dr. Goodswill Akpapio, said the campaign is timely.

There is need for the nation mental reorientation, so that it will not be business as usual for the citizens as soon as they have the opportunity. There is need for physical orientation of the country, proper disposal of refuse, good roads and good schools. He also said there is need for the nation to go back to God which according to him is spiritual rebranding.

“We must put the fear of God in the heart of our children. We must use our spiritual fathers to get to Nigerians. I believe introduction of religious studies in our school system can reduce militancy. All arm of the government must institute justice. Appointment must not be based on tribe.”
