TSS: FG, Govs, NUT meet today

Abuja – The Federal Government  and State Governors  and officials of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) are scheduled to meet in Abuja today to resolve the lingering conflict in the implementation of TSS-27.5% Special Allowance for Teachers.

Labour and Productivity Minister, Prince Adetokunbo Kayode (SAN) who disclosed this, said the meeting is necessary in order to achieve a peaceful resolution to all issues at stake regarding the implementation of the Special Allowance for Teachers.

The issue of the implementation of the Teachers Salary Scale has been a contentious issue between State Governments and the Nigeria Union  of Teachers.

The Governors had  agreed to implement the TSS after the teachers  embarked on a two month nation wide strike, last year to put pressure on government to implement the TSS. Currently, teachers in some states are still on strike on the same issue.

The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Prince Adetokunbo Kayode advised all the stakeholders to be punctual at the emergency meeting in order to find lasting solution to the problem.

The State Governors or their representatives invited to the meeting includes the Executive Governors of Abia, Ananmbra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Kebbi and Kogi States. Other State Executive Governors invited are Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Taraba and Benue States respectively.
