Swine flu: Lagos advises residents on good hygiene

By Chioma Obinna
TO prevent and arrest any case of the deadly disease called Influenza A HINI otherwise known as Swine Flu, already reported in some neighbouring countries, the Lagos State Government says it has dispatched health surveillance/monitoring team to the Badagry Local Government Area of the state to enlighten and sensitise the people on the deadly disease.

The government also advised citizens and residents of the state to report any suspected case of the disease to the following telephone numbers: 08033329327 or 08023228573 or to the nearest health facility around them.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, in statement, noted that the dispatch of the health surveillance/monitoring team was coming on the heels of the reported outbreak of the disease in some neighbouring West African countries and, however, advised the citizenry to observe a high standard of personal and environmental hygiene as the disease is known to be transmitted through close contact with suspected people.

Idris urged the people to avoid close contact with sick people and to wash their hands with soap and water frequently and thoroughly, especially after coughing and sneezing.
