Sokoto – The Sokoto Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has described as “hasty†the suspension of two of its members by the states Information Ministry and the Management of the Rima Radio.
The suspension order on the duo was sequel to the reportage of an alleged false news. The suspension was announced in Sokoto on Wednesday by the Management of the Rima Radio as approved by the Information Commissioner, Mallam Dahiru Maishanu.
Those suspended are a News Editor, Abdulnasir Abubakar and a Reporter, Abubakar Isa.
A statement jointly signed by Muhammad Sajo and Musa Ubandawaki, the Chairman and Secretary respectively of the NUJ council, in Sokoto, yesterday advised the Ministry and the Management of the Radio Station to reverse the decision.
The statement urged the Rima Radio Management to investigate the matter thoroughly before taking any action. “On its part, the Sokoto NUJ has already referred the matter to its Ethics and Disciplinary Committee for necessary action,” the statement said.
