Probe : Imo govt pledges to co-operate with Assembly

By Chidi Nkwopara

Owerri – Imo State government says it will throw open its financial books to the investigation panel set up by the State House of Assembly to probe alleged “financial recklessness and misdemeanor” leveled against Governor Ikedi Ohakim by some politicians.

Ohakim’s Special Adviser on Politics, Chief Rex Anunobi, who made this disclosure during an interview in Owerri, also said that government welcomed the probe.

“Government welcomes the probe and will make its books and records available for the panel under its policy of transparency and accountability in governance”, Anunobi said.

He was of the view that in a democracy, criticism can help shape a polity provided they are constructive and not destructive, seditious and libelous.

“I want to use this opportunity to inform the public that the allegations of financial recklessness are completely false, unfounded and baseless. It was fabricated by disgruntled politicians, who have lost face in the affairs of the state and who have been jettisoned to political wilderness”, he said.

Anunobi warned those who he said “have planned to destabilize the state, to think of better things they can do, use their resources to attract industries and offer employment to the youths”.
