The Chairman of Moba Local Government, Mr Akinwale Alebiosu, and five others have been arrested by the Ekiti State Police Command over alleged gunrunning.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that Alebiosu and others were arrested at Otun-Ekiti on Friday at about 11p.m. with 13 guns concealed in a vehicle.

Alebiosu was also alleged to be hiding thugs in his house at Otun-Ekiti.

The Acting Commissioner of Police, Mr Fabian Ojiri, confirmed the arrest of the chairman to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday.

He said that he had ordered that the suspect be brought to the Command’s headquarters in Ado-Ekiti for further investigation.

“It is true that the chairman and other persons were arrested by the police over a yet-to-be confirmed allegation,” the acting commissioner said.

“They are currently been kept at the divisional headquarters at Otun-Ekiti, but we have directed that they should be brought to Ado-Ekiti for proper investigation and to establish their culpability or otherwise.”

Speaking on the arrest in an interview with the NAN, Mr Jackson Adebayo, PDP State Director of Communications and Strategy, said the party was not against the rule of law.

He, however, urged the police to do a thorough investigation on the matter.

In his reaction, the State Chairman of Action Congress (AC), Chief Jide Awe, praised the police for the arrest and called for full investigation.
