ONITSHA – The Anambra Police Command has arrested occupants of a house at Neni, Anocha Local Government Area of the state, where the famous Nollywood actor and veteran journalist, Chief Pete Edochie, who was kidnapped penultimate Sunday, was dumped by his kidnappers.
Commissioner of the command, Mr Uzor Amakulor dropped the hint while briefing reporters on the activities of the command in the last few months.
He said the arrest followed police investigation, which showed that Edochie’s kidnappers were armed robbers, who ran short of money to purchase arms and ammunitions and only resorted to the kidnap to raise some money.
“Our investigation showed that the people were armed robbers. The kidnapping of Pete Edochie was a stop gap. What they wanted to do was to get quick money they could use to buy arms and ammunitionâ€.
He continued, “Pete Edochie was not the target. It was a coincident. We(police) advise the youths who indulge in all kinds of violent crime to desist from such act and engage themselves in meaningful activities for their livelihoodâ€
Amakulor reassured the people of Anambra state that the police was doing everything possible to provide them with a conducive and enabling environment.
