One dead, 22 hospitalised in Niger Bridge Head accident

Asaba – A ghastly motor accident occurred  close to the former Toll Gate near the Niger Bridge Head Asaba, yesterday,  morning, killing a 911 tipper lorry driver while no fewer than 22 persons have been hospitalized.

As a result of the accident involving a 911 tipper lorry and a luxury bus, there was serious traffic jam on the highway until men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) cleared the road. It was a head on collision.

Police sources confirmed that the death of the tipper driver on the spot, while other injured persons mainly from the luxury bus, were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Asaba, General Hospital Okwe and other hospitals in Onitisha.

Some of the wounded passengers were said to be in critical condition.

Contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the State police command, Mr. Charles Muka said, “I can confirm the death of the driver of the lorry.  I believe the other driver must be in custody by now”.
