Owerri – Imo State Government has warned members of the public, who lead youths into violence and unnecessary death, that waging war against the Nigerian state is not a legitimate action, no matter their grievances.
Governor Ikedi Ohakim stated this when he inaugurated the new board of Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC) in Owerri.
“If violence was necessary to draw attention to the economic condition of the Niger Delta, it is no longer necessary today. The world knows about the Niger Delta tragedy. It is therefore mischievous to say that amnesty is only for criminalsâ€, he said.
He warned that government will not hesitate to dissolve the board for mismanagement, corruption, incompetence or breach of the law setting it up.
“This government shall not hesitate to remove anybody who constitutes a clog in the wheel of the Commission’s work, because failure has the dire consequences of breeding youth restiveness in the oil producing areas of the stateâ€, he said.
He warned that his administration would not tolerate any interference with the statutory functions of the Commission, especially in these times of economic crunch requiring maximum prudence with public funds.
