The list of nominees for
the ground breaking AIT Football Awards is ready to be presented to the public.
In a press release by event manager, Neo Media and Marketing, the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ehi Braimah, said the list is ready for the public. “The Award Committee first met two weeks ago at the Southern Sun Hotel in Ikoyi and came out with a near flawless modality for shortlisting awardees.

“This weekend, they will be meeting again to finalise and hand over the list which will then be presented to the public to vote for their candidates of choice”, Mr. Braimah said.

He also revealed that the anomaly of not having any female member has been corrected as Nneka Anibeze of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria has accepted to serve. “We had a shortlist of five top female sports practitioners, at the end Mrs. Anibeze was picked and when we approached her, we were happy she consented to serve.”

Chairman of the award committee, Mr. Paul Bassey, said their work was made easy by the quality of members in the panel. “My brother how I wish all committees were like this. As chairman, I just sit down and pick the brains of my most informed colleagues so much that meetings that were supposed to last for four hours were dismissed under two hours.”

“I confess that there were instances we ran into brick walls due to the non- availability of suitable candidates for certain categories especially in the youth realm, and this is a reflection of the non-existence of defined development programmes for our sports.
“All we do in this country  is gather people together for the ephemeral purpose of winning competitions”, he said. Mr. Bassey was all praise for AIT for filling a much existing motivational  gap despite our level of sports awareness.

Other members of the committee include Mr. Mitchell Obi, Mr. Mumini Alao, Mr. Fela Bank Olemoh, Mr. Ikeddy Isiguzo, Mr. Waidi Akanni and Mr. Dudu Orumen.

The committee is charged with the responsibility of shortlisting  three football teams,  players and administrators who excelled in their various categories in the football season just ended.

There are a total of twenty one categories including footballer of the year, male and female coaches of the year, clubs of the year, administrator of the year and the football legend award  among others.

Nigerians will then be given an opportunity to vote for their choices and the winners will be honored at a grand ceremony at the Hilton hotel in Abuja on October 11, televised live by event sponsor, foremost sports broadcast media  Africa Independent Television.
