THE Mega Summit Movement (MSM) is to convene  a national political summit in October to realize the objective of building a broad based platform of political party that offers credible alternative for genuine democratization and good governance in Nigeria.
This was among the several resolution reached at the end of its inaugural meeting held in Lagos, weekend.
The meeting which was attended by notable political leaders and representatives of groups across the country reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Nigeria’s political process through consultative approach in advocating political reform with a view to deepening political participation and consolidate democracy.
The movement’s director of media and publicity, Alhaji Hamisu Turaki said: “the MSM would work towards sponsoring a private member bill on electoral reform at the
National Assembly in furthering our resolve to demand a credible electoral system that would invest Nigeria’s political process with popular participation and genuine democratizationâ€.
We will also engage both chambers of the National Assembly and other political stakeholders in advocacy to facilitate the reform of the electoral process ahead of the general elections in 2011.
We will intensify consultations with leaders of opposition political parties in Nigeria political process to ensure the formation of a broad-based political party that reflects, approximates and accommodates the collective yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians in a truly nationalistic political platform for nurturing enduring political culture towards sustaining popular engagement with democratic process for rapid socio-economic transformation and national developmentâ€.
