Mimiko denies sneaking out of Ondo

By Dayo Johnson
GOVERNOR Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State yesterday reacted to the criticism of the opposition party in the state on his one week business trip abroad, saying that it was borne out of mischief and a calculated attempt to blackmail him.

He, however, declared that he would “not be distracted by the antics of the  members of the Peoples Democratic Party who sees nothing good in his good intention to advance the economy of the state.

The Peoples Democratic Party PDP in the state had attacked the governor for sneaking out of the state to travel abroad without informing the people of the state.

But in his reaction after arriving the state, the governor said the allegation was mischievous and should not be taken serious by the people of the state and Nigerians.

Speaking through his Information Commissioner Ranti Akerele, he said the governor did not sneak out of the state because he duly informed members of the State House of Assembly before the  business trip to Trinidad and Tobago for one week for the advancement of the state .

He denied that the trip was a jamboree to waste the resources of the state but to seek technical assistance for the exploration of the vast bitumen deposits that abound in the state.

Akerele described the allegation as “outright lies and a calculated attempt by the opposition to misinform the people of the state.

The Commissioner pointed out that the one week trip was the first in the last six months after Dr Mimiko took over from the former Dr Olusegun Agagu.

He said the trip was not a secret one as the PDP wanted to make people to believe, explaining that it was a working visit for the economic development of the state.

According to him: “The PDP is into misinformation and mischief because the trip of Mr. Governor was not a secret one, it was his first trip in six months that he became governor, they should come out and tell the people what they know and not what they know nothing about.”

“Mr. Governor went for the advancement of the state, he has traveled out to ensure that we can use the oil and gas that we have in the state for the advancement of the state. A government that is forward looking should look for new ways of doing things.

“The visit is an all inclusive, he has gone to study the system at Trinidad and Tobago and to also seek technical assistance, this government will reposition Ondo State. Mr. Governor is undeterred, he is focus.”
