Aba – Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has advised the leadership of the various militants groups in the Niger Delta region against accepting amnesty granted them by the Federal Government, saying that it was deceitful.
MASSOB said that if the amnesty is extended to them, it would be rejected outright.
MASSOB said the amnesty ought not to have come in the first instance since the militants were not criminals nor were they convicted by any court of law.
According to MASSOB, the amnesty as announced by President Umaru Yar’Adua, was not meant to serve any useful purpose for the people of the oil-rich region, but only to break the ranks of the militants and weaken their resolve to liberate their citizens from decades of neglect and deprivation.
MASSOB’s Director of Information, Mr Uchenna Madu gave the warning in a chat with journalists in Aba, at a reception by the Aba Region of the Movement to welcome him back after three years of incarceration.
Madu said the Federal Government’s decision to grant the militants amnesty was borne out of the fact that the government had failed in its military bid to suppress the militants. He said that accepting the amnesty would amount to abandoning a noble course for which many youths from the area had paid the noble price.
