Kidnappers kill 3 policemen, abduct 2 council chairmen in Kogi

LOKOJA -  A 7- man gang of heavily armed gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, yesterday, stormed the Optimum Pleasure Hotels in Bunu area of  Kabba  Local Government  of Kogi State killing three policemen and abducting two council chairmen with the kidnappers asking for N10 million ransom for each of them.

The abducted chairmen, Ropo Asalu (Yagba West) and his counterpart from Igala/Mela/Odolu councils, Enest Abah, who incidenta-lly is the elder brother of the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Humphry Abah were amongst the 17 local government chairmen at a  meeting which held in the  hotel when the abductors struck at about 7.30am, yesterday.

Six of the chairmen were wounded in the process.

The kidnappers, according to reports, have contacted their family members demanding the sum before they could be released.

Kogi State Acting Commissioner of Police, Abdullahi Magaji, confirmed the incidents and said the police were on their trail.

The police boss said the kidnappers were being chased from Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State where they had abducted some lawyers and killed a policeman on duty at the Itakpe Federal Highway.

According to him, “we mobilised and gave them a hot chase as they made to escape through Kabba, adding that they suddenly met several fleet of vehicles parked at a hotel with the intent that they could make more money and then opened fire.”
