Mrs Bridget Orjiekwe, Chairman,Enugu Local Government Service Commission, has warned that Local Government workers that absent themselves from duty would
lose their salaries.
Orjiekwe told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Enugu that the resolve had become necessary in view of the high incidences of absenteeism and indolence among workers.
According to her, heads of personnel managements in the areas would be held responsible for the attitude of workers under them. “Since the Governor has been paying salaries and leave allowances to these workers, they have no reason to abandon their offices,” she said.
Orjiekwe, who had just completed a tour of the 17 council areas and 57 development centres, said that many of them were under-developed as they lacked basic infrastructure.
“Some of them operate under the trees while some are in rented accommodations,” she said. The official said that medical staff had been posted to the rural areas to boost healthcare in the rural areas.
