Today is decision day for players in the Globacom Premier League, Africa’s number one league competition as the Nigeria Premier League and title sponsor, Globacom Limited set the banquet for nominees in 11 categories of the Globacom Premier League Awards.

After eight gruelling months of stiff competition that culminated in the emergence of Bayelsa United as champions, all stakeholders will gather to clink glasses, courtesy of Globacom at the banquet hall of Kwara Hotels. It brings to an end another five days of pre_season tournament, the Glo Super 4.

Starved of top level Globacom Premier League football action in the last three seasons, Ilorin, the provincial city of Afonja descendants reclaimed its place in Nigeria’s football with the hosting of the 4th Globacom Premier League Super 4. For Ilorin football fans, the tournament which began on August 18 with an opening match between Globacom Premier League champions, Bayelsa United and their Delta State neighbours, Warri Wolves, it is a befitting welcome party for their darling team, Kwara United which came back to the premiership.

For the government of Kwara State led by Dr. Bukola Saraki, the Glo Super 4 also provided another pedestal for the state to further its pursuit of making Ilorin the nation’s  number one football destination. This was amply echoed by the State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Zakari Mohammed in explaining their rationale for  hosting the event.

“The acceptance to host the Glo Super 4 is part of aan integrated strategy to make the state capital a football destination. This commenced with the establishment of our world class soccer academy, the support for Kwara United to return to the Globacom  Premier League and most recently, the hosting of former Chelsea coach, Jose Maurinho.

The Glo Super 4 is the biggest domestic pre_season tournament and we are  honoured to play host to the best of the Globacom Premier League”, Zakari stated.

The special guest of honour for the Awards ceremony, Governor Saraki will also be receiving an award from the Nigeria Premier League in recognition of his support for football in the state. Chief Oyuki Jackson Obaseki, the Chairman of NPL explained that “the award to Governor Saraki is in recognition of his contributions to the development of football through the prestigious Kwara Football Academy, the support for Kwara United to gain promotion to the Glo Premier League and graciously hosting the Glo Super 4”.
