Fake products: Chinese govt to take responsibility – FG

Abuja – The Federal Government said yesterday that arrangements have been concluded for the signing of an agreement with the Chinese government that would make the latter take full responsibility for all fake and adulterated products being imported into the country aimed at ensuring that Nigerians get quality products.

According to the government, it has also imposed more hurdles for local manufacturers across the country by ensuring that they go through the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programmme, adding that it has approved 133 Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS) for Chemical Technology Standards with 37 products, Food Technology Standards 26, Leather Technology Standards 11; Mechanical Engineering Standards 51 and Textile Technology Standards 08.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja yesterday on Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) Policy direction for 2009, Chairman, Governing Council of SON, Dr. Samuel Ortom who noted that the products for which new standards have been set include the processing of Suya, Kulikuli, Sesame Seeds, Analysis of Caramel, Liquid Malt Extract, Baker’s Yeast, safety foot wear; Citrus Marmalade, Dodo, among others, said some standards were reviewed and revised.
