The entire members of AKUBGE -ORETIN Progressive Union, the apex ruling body of   Binis in Kwara State have called for a National Merit Award to be bestowed on the Chairman of the Nigeria Premier League, NPL, Chief Oyuki  J. Obaseki (JP), for his dynamic and visionary leadership.

President of the Union, Pa Osemwegie Odigie Ogiieriahki in a welcome address on the occasion of Chief Obaseki’s visit to Ilorin to cover the 2009 Globacom Super—4 tournament said that the call became necessary because of Chief  Obaseki’s laudable achievements in the development of football in Nigeria.

According to Pa Ogieriahki, “our happiness stems from the fact that every one who is a genuine lover of the game of football has come to see Chief Obaseki’s unique and impeccable performance in the development of football in the country. It is also pertinent to state that since becoming the Chairman of the NPL, the Nigerian League has been waxing strong. Your impeccable managerial skills and excellent professional ability have become indispensable tools as far as football administration is concerned in Nigeria.

It is this hard earned position of yours that has catapulted the Nigeria Premier League to international standard. Your passion for the game of football, hard work and uncanny desire for excellence has made the NPL the best in Africa and 23rd best in the world. Therefore, we the Bini people in Kwara State and Edo people in general call on the Edo state government to submit Chief Obaseki’s name for the National Merit Award.

In a chat with Sports Writers after the ceremony, the Union’s PRO, Mr. William Uyi Orumwense{aka Papa Lucianu} said, “we are proud of the achievements of Chief Oyuki Obaseki. .It is our prayer that God Almighty will grant Chief Obaseki good health, long life and wisdom to face and overcome the various challenges attendant upon the nerve—sapping assignments that he is currently undertaking.

Responding, Chief Obaseki who was overwhelmed with joy thanked the Binis in Kwara State for the honour and huge hospitality given to him and his wife, adding that at God’s appointed time, his hard work will speak for him. He called on all to support the NPL and every thing made in Nigeria.

In a related development, Children of New Era U-13 Kiddies Academy, Ilorin thanked Chief Obaseki for his love and financial support to them as the team co-ordinator, Mr. Soni Omo Ahamioje said, “these kids are happy that our father has accepted to be our life patron and with him the future of all kid footballers in Nigeria is guaranteed.”
