Ebonyi expends N185m on Afikpo water restoration

By Dennis Agbo

Abakaliki – Ebonyi state government has provided the sum of N185.2million for the restoration of pipe borne water in the ancient city of Afikpo and its Uwana environs.

The state government said it noted with concern that Afikpo and its surroundings, have been experiencing epileptic  water supply for upward of five years, due to incessant bursts of old and weak asbestos pipeline network and non-maintenance of Ogberehi and Uwana head works, hence the need to reactivate and replace the obsolete pipes.

When completed, the water works will be integrated to the on-going Ukawu mega water scheme to provide water to Afikpo city and its environs.

State Commissioner for Information and National Orientation, Mr. Ken Uhuo, who made the disclosure while briefing newsmen in Abakaliki, yesterday, further said that the state executive council received and approved the report of allocation of 100 Housing units at Onueke and Afikpo.

He said that the housing project is in line with government’s directive to accommodate interested civil/public servants on the basis of 20% to host councils, 40% to the host senatorial zones and 40% to others.

“With the approval, beneficiaries can now be issued with letters of allocation on owner-occupier basis and should commence the process of documentation and payment of the initial deposit,” he added.
