UMUAHIA—Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, said that the state hopes to improve on its internally regenerated revenue in order to meet its development targets and campaign promises.
According to him, it was due to the lopsided financial strength that has made it impossible for some state governments to engage the services of multi-national companies. He however, said that the despite the difficulties, his administration has been able to make some commendable marks.
Governor Orji also appeal to the citizens of the state to assist his administration in the fight against crime, especially kidnapping from the polity, so that the resources spent in combatting the menace could be channelled into other useful purposes.
Orji in a statement in Umuahia to mark the commemoration of the 18th Anniversary of the creation of the state, regretted that scarcity of funds, coupled with the raging financial meltdown globally, has constituted a clog in the wheel of the progress of his administration.
The statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kingsley Emeruwa, said that the developments recorded by his administration in the face of the daunting challenges, was due to high fiscal responsibility and prudent management of scarce resources, adding that it would be out of place for any reasonable critic to compare the development in the state with that of those states whose resources are quite high.
