Yar’Adua’s convoy involved in auto-crash

The convoy of President Umaru Yar’Adua was yesterday involved in an accident on its way from Ilorin, the Kwara State capital to Abuja.

It was learnt that the accident occurred near Kabba, in Kogi State when a light blue Toyota Camry tumbled into the Toyota Hiace that was conveying some protocol staff of the President.

The car was said to have narrowly missed the first four cars on the convoy before the Hiace which was said to have lost control and somersaulted with the nine occupants sustaining various degrees of injuries.

Witnesses said the convoy had to cut its journey to Abuja to return to Kabba where the injured were taken for medical attention.

The injured were later moved to Abuja and admitted at the Aso Clinic when the convoy arrived the capital city at 5.50 p.m.

It was learnt that the Camry driver refused to stop in spite of the havoc that he caused with his recklessness and that efforts by sympathizers to track him failed.

The President had travelled to Ilorin where he commissioned an Independent Power Plant in the state.
