Captain Okey Odita has admitted that Enyimba were lucky to scrape a 1-0 victory over Sharks in the final of this year’s Federation Cup held weekend at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
Enyimba, two-time CAF Champions League winners, scooped the trophy courtesy of a header by Musa Mustapha in the 36th minute.

It was another agonizing end for the Port Harcourt-based Sharks, who are yet to win a national silverware since their formation.

Speaking at the post-match conference, Odita, who plays in the central defence, said that Sharks could have won the match if they had taken the many chances that came their way in the opening minutes of the first half.
“We were not in the game in the opening minutes. It was a very difficult period for us because were trying to get into the rhythm of the game while Sharks were busy doing most of the playing but they failed to take their chances.  If they did it probably could have been a different story.

“We thank God for giving us the victory because it was not an easy game. We tried to handle our opponents but they were good in making those passes, which sometimes, almost exposed us. All the same, we laughed last because we stayed calm”, added Odita, who thanked the fans for their unflinching support even when Enyimba were losing the battle for the midfield to their opponents from Rivers State.
“Our fans would always remain our greatest asset because they came from all parts of the country to support us and it was good that we repaid them with the win”, he said.
