JUST as the call for Austin Jay Jay Okocha to return to the Eagles gathers momentum, ex-international, Binebi Numa, has warned him not to succumb to temptation. “Those who are calling on Okocha to come-back are saboteurs.

They don’t mean well to him. They truly want to ruin the good things that he has done for Nigeria in his illustrious career”, Benebi, who had a sparkling career for Nigeria before injury checkmated him said.

He said that he was taken aback when he read stories about the former Bolton skipper coming back to salvage the Eagles in their quest to qualify for the 2010 World Cup.

“Frankly speaking, without Okocha, the Eagles may still qualify. I don’t know how Okocha is going to add to the team in qualifying. He has tasted the good things of life outside from his active days. The Okocha they are calling to come back to the Eagles is no longer the Okocha that we all used to know. He should ignore such calls and play some other roles in retirement that could benefit the team. Definitely, not coming out of retirement”, Binebi insisted.

The former player who is now into consultancy in Port Harcourt advised Okocha to learn from the mistakes of former Green Eagles skipper, Christian Chukwu.

“This is exactly how they tricked Chukwu to come out of retirement to mess himself against Algeria. Today that match against Algeria that saw a double-size Chukwu, a shadow of himself remains a sour point in the once upon a time glittering career of Chukwu. The younger players in the Eagles have all it takes to qualify Nigeria for the World Cup. This is a clarion call and I want Jay Jay to steer clear”, Numa emphasised.

Adokiye Amiesimaka, another ex-international, had suggested that Okocha should come out of retirement to help the Eagles qualify for the World Cup in South Africa. Since then, there has been a plethora of opinions. Christian Chukwu, too, has advised Okocha to ignore the calls and enjoy his retirement.
