Residents decry loss of lives, property to reckless driving

Tiga (Kano) — Residents of Bagauda and Tiga areas of Kano state, yesterday, decried the over speeding by some motorists which had claimed the lives of people and animals in the area.

Malam Garba Muhammed, a resident of Tiga, said he lost his 11 year-old daughter, Naja’atu, who was going to school last week in one of such accidents.

He said Naja’atu was one of the many children and adults killed by these reckless drivers in the area.

“My daughter was on her way to school with three of her friends. As they were waiting for an on-coming vehicle to pass, the motorist hit Naja’atu and she died on the spot,” Muhammed lamented.

Alhaji Habu Isa, a resident of Bagauda, also told our correspondent that he also lost his younger brother in such accident last month, explaining that the young man was herding animals when a car hit him while standing by the road side.

Isa said: “It’s true that we have a bad road linking Tiga and Bagauda, but since most of the road-users are aware of this, why won’t they be careful and slow down when they reach these areas?”

He urged government to provide road signs that would warn motorists to control their speed in order to curb the carnage on these roads.
