BENIN—THE member representing Uhunmwode/Orhionmwon Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Samson Osagie, has called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts towards ensuring that those responsible for the bombing of Atlas Cove Jetty in Lagos State recently were brought to book.
Condemning the bombing of the jetty, Osagie described those responsible as criminals and economic saboteurs who do not mean well for the country.
In a statement he made available to Vanguard in Benin yesterday, the legislator regretted that the bombing of the jetty was coming on the heels of the Federal Government’s efforts at tackling the deluge of problems confronting the Niger Delta.
According to him, “such an act of unpatriotism is coming at a time when the federal government is taking tremendous and far-reaching steps to restore peace to the Niger Delta so as to fast-track the development of the area.â€
He called on security agencies not to fold their arms until those responsible for the act were apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law.
Osagie also called for a re-think of strategy in the Niger Delta struggle that would not be antithetical to the development of the region.
It would be recalled that Atlas Cove jetty in Lagos state was bombed resulting in loss of lives of some Naval personnel and some civilians.
The Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) claimed responsibility for the act.
