Orji flags off medical mission by doctors from abroad

Umuahia—GOVERNOR Theodore Orji of Abia state, has flagged off a medical mission embarked upon by a group of Nigerian Doctors based in the United States of America and the United Kingdom.

The group, it was learnt returned home to impart the experience they had acquired in their chosen profession.

Addressing the ceremony, Governor Orji expressed happiness with the gesture by the group, saying they did well to remember home.

“Today, we have a crop of medical experts who have excelled in their fields of endeavour, who have decided to come home and impart some of the knowledge they had acquired on their people. You will also notice that we have some foreigners in our midst.

They are also medical experts, who have a burning desire to render services and on behalf of the government and people of Abia state, I welcome them all and thank them for their timely effort.

“These doctors you see here today have forgone great personal comfort to be here today. They have left their private practice, forgone the money they were supposed to earn and even forgone the holiday they are supposed to be observing to render services,  free of charge.

We are indeed grateful. Our administration has shown great commitment to promoting the health of our people. Believing in the maxim that ‘Health is Wealth’, we have taken a number of far-reaching measures to safeguard the health of our people.

“We are currently undertaking the equipping and standardisation of one hospital in every Senatorial Zone, turning same into a referral hospital for our people to get specialist treatments and diagnostics. I am happy to announce to you that we have undertaken a massive re-equipping and mordernisation of the Amachara General Hospital as the pilot hospital for Abia Central Senatorial Zone and the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba to serve the people of Abia South Senatorial Zone,” he said.
