MTN WGC – regional qualifiers berth in Benin

MTN World Golf Championship action moves to Benin this weekend as the newly refurbished golf course in the ancient city play host to the South-South regional qualifiers, where over 200 amateur golfers are expected to vie for honours.

More national finalists are expected to emerge following the successful completion of regional qualifiers in Kaduna and Lagos, which produced winners like the former Captain of Ikeja Golf Club, Chudi Ubosi and Ebere Onyejiri two weeks ago.

In what has become the nation’s flagship corporate golf competition, the MTN WGC has become a premium delight every year, going by the turn-out and calibre of players who play in the annual contest.
According to MTN’s Chief Marketing Officer, Mr. Bola Akingbade, “through the WGC, MTN is again re-affirming its corporate social values of leadership, innovation and relationship. We will not only create experiential opportunities for our customers, in terms of innovation and executive networking, we are also intent on building a lasting legacy of support, partnership and exciting golfing experience in Nigeria”.

He reiterated that the launch of new MTN innovative products and services during the qualifiers and at the finals in Abuja in August are designed to meet the needs and desires of high value customers in a complete lifestyle enhancement.
The products to be showcased include MTN Eye, MTN One World Phase II, MTN Back up, Google SMS from MTN, MTN Sim Plus and MTN Video Cam.

The WGC is an annual tournament that starts from the players home country as a national championship which is divided into five handicap flights, each played differently. Five winners, one from each flight, represent their country as a team, as well as individually within their flight.
Since the debut of the WGC in Nigeria in 2005, it has not only ignited the passion of golfers in and around the country, it has also attracted global attention under the sponsorship of MTN Nigeria.
From its series of qualifying rounds which started over a month ago in the Northern regional competition at the Kaduna Golf Club, the winners from the national finals will go on to represent Nigeria in the World Golfers Championship finals in Marbella, Spain later in the year.
